This exquisite design was inspired by handpainted 18th century Chinese wallpaper in the dining room of the Lightfoot House at Colonial Williamsburg. The decoration incorporates blossoming trees, hanging baskets of flowers and exotic birds, and is banded with touches of gold. These were common features in Chinese inspired decorative arts, known as Chinoiserie, which were popular in Europe and the colonies in the 18th century.
A favorite with brides, Mottahedeh specializes in luxurious patterns and unique, elegant shapes that are reproduced from china found in museums and historical societies. The patterns feature complex and vibrant colors, and hand-painted gold decoration. The pieces are surprisingly fresh and timely, and look wonderful in both contemporary and traditional dining rooms.
